Unlike the Morris, clog dancing does not have its roots in ritual dance. It probably originates from the time of the Industrial Revolution when the working people made up dances for their own entertainment. The clogs used for dancing have curved wooden soles with which rhythmic taps are made to musical accompaniment. The dances are virtuoso affairs designed to show the skill of an individual performer, but they can equally be performed by several people in unison.
